60MPG?

Posted on Mar 2nd, 2008 by OfMay : Golden Eagle OfMay
Looking at the Trib today going through the transportation section.  Wow where are the 40 and 50 and 60 MPG cars? Is this such a feat? To double current and long term historic averages for MPG? This  should not be such an imponderable challenge. Where is my 60MPG?

When will folks try to sell me a car, not based on marketing findings on sex and addiction, but by the size of my footprint on this earth.

60MPG?

Edward

Draining Lake Michigan (one flush at a time)

Posted on Mar 4th, 2008 by OfMay : Golden Eagle OfMay
Last week I was deep in western Chicago Land. At one point I flushed the toilet and thought that I just dumped 2-3 gallons of water out of Lake Michigan and into the Mississippi river basin.  You may say so, what is the big deal. What it comes down to is millions of gallons of water being pulled out of lake Michigan to be used, cleaned and than released into the Mississippi river.

Big cities like Chicago as well as other large cities span the divide between the Great Lakes basin and the Mississippi river basin. When fresh water is pumped  out of the lake and piped far enough inland that it crosses into the Mississippi basin. There it is used, cleaned and than released. This drains the lake and sends fresh water, not back to be held as fresh water in the lake, but to be flushed into the salty sea.

I can think of several piers in Door County that end yards before the current water line. Other cities and also draining lake Michigan in the same way. We need to return this water to its source. Yes it is expensive but not as but compared to the value of clean and abundant fresh water.

Fresh water that leaves the lake should return to the lake and not be sent to salty sea. We need all the fresh water that we and manage. A large percentage of the water in lake Michigan is glacial-water and can not be replaced. Lets work to keep our fresh water as clean and abundant as we can.

Best,

Edward

Ice Garden

What a display of ice we have this year. The front of the ice-dams are 5-6 inches hight. the soffit is carrying water back to the siding and in spots it is running down behind the siding. I guess I could spend a lot of time griping about it and wringing my hands about what I would have to do to fix it. Mostly i have been loving the icicles! They have been wonderful this year! fat crocked ones, long thin ones, intense ones locked into bushes are my favorite.

recently I have been popping the bigger icicles into snow banks, they look kind of erie and wonderful. Tonight I started purposefully decorating the snowbanks around the house and Gallery.

The hilts of the icicles were for me the body of the form. The points are the roots of the body. Worth pointing up now and then but unless in a trio or other odd grouping  my urge is to burry the points and have the hilt tell its story no matter how much leaf litter and single grit is suspended in it.

Tomorrow morning I will take some images of the ice and post them here.

Best,

Edward

Sublingual?

Posted on Mar 13th, 2008 by OfMay : Golden Eagle OfMay
Fighting a border line cold for a wile now and have been taking Echinacea in liquid form. Usually I squirt a dropper full under my tong and call it done. However today I did it a bit different. For some reason I took two squirts and instead moving on as usual I paused and held the under part of my tong away from my throat for as long as I could.  WOW what a difference! It was if I were engulfed in a vaporous experience of Echinacea that I have never had before in my life.  It felt like I was exposing my body in a wonderfully open way. Next time I will try it with less liquid so I get good saturation but do not have to swallow.  If like me this is not your custom check it out! Its a bit fun in a sensational way.

Best,

Edward
